The Hanging Egg Exterior chair is a critically acclaimed design that has enjoyed praise worldwide ever since the distinctive sculptural shape was created by Nanna & Jørgen Ditzel in 1959.
The chair is designed on the basis of the body and it is one of the first chairs based on the idea of integrating a shell on a frame as one piece. It is a Scandinavian classic and is one of the most known iconic designs from Denmark. The Hanging Egg Exterior chair is commonly used for both private and hospitality projects by architects and designers all over the world.
Hanging Egg Exterior is handcrafted in Alu-Rattan and ArtFibre, and therefore has a unique strength and durability. Alu-Rattan is weather-resistant powder-coated aluminum and ArtFibre is artificial fibers made from polyethylene. This furniture is designed by Nanna Ditzel (1923-2005) who was an internationally recognized Danish designer. Together with her husband, Jørgen Ditzel (1921-1961), she established a design studio in 1946. In 1950, the couple began working with wicker in the renowned workshop founded by the famous wicker maker Robert W.
Ditzel's experimental approach to materials resulted in several innovative pieces of furniture made from rattan. This cooperation was the beginning of a renewed status for wicker furniture in interior design. Read more about Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel here.
Our cushions are developed in our Danish sewing studio to add extra comfort and fit perfectly into each piece of furniture. For our outdoor cushions we use high quality foam that drains water rapidly while circulating air with optimal efficiency. These are presented with Italian Tempotest fabrics that are rotting proof and immune to formation of mold and fungus. Cushions that are made to order cannot be returned.
