Teddy is an exclusive and comfortable lounge chair designed by Viggo Boesen in 1936. The lounge chair is handcrafted in sustainable Indonesian rattan and woven by skilled wicker makers. The Teddy armchair is suitable both for the ordinary home, the conservatory and the summer house, and the detailed windings make the chair a cozy element in the room.
Sika-Design uses carefully selected rattan, and uses only the two best qualities called Tohiti and Manau. Rattan is often compared to bamboo, but unlike bamboo which is hollow, rattan is a solid material. Rattan is a remarkably strong and durable material, and therefore you get a unique design piece of furniture that can last for generations.
Viggo Boesen was known as one of the best designers in the heyday of Danish design. Teddy is Viggo Boesen's interpretation of the popular ear flap chair from the mid-19th century. The chair was named Teddy because of the design that resembles a teddy bear hug. The name both describes the appearance of the chair, and the feeling when leaning back into the lounge chair.
In the same iconic design, you find the matching Teddy Footstool. The footstool completes the lounge chair and adds extra comfort. See the Teddy Footstool here.
The Teddy lounge chair is part of Sika-Design's exclusive ICONS collection, which presents furniture by some of the most talented designers and architects of our time. See our entire ICONS collection here.

This furniture is designed by Viggo Boesen (1907-1985) who was a Danish architect that contributed to the Danish design aesthetics in the 1930s. From his workshop, Viggo designed a number of rattan and upholstery furniture, which was constructed according to his philosophy: Furniture should have an organic flow and embrace the body smoothly and tenderly. They should be a delight to the eye, but also be solid and durable. Read more about Viggo Boesen here.
This furniture is handcrafted in rattan, which is one of the most sustainable materials available for furniture manufacturing. Rattan is often confused with bamboo, but unlike hollow bamboo, rattan is a solid material. This makes rattan furniture very durable, and able to last for generations.
When steamed for 10-15 minutes, rattan can be formed by hand using old traditional manufacturing techniques and a few simple tools. Rattan comes in 600 different variants and at Sika-Design we only use the two best qualities called Tohiti and Manau. Read more about rattan here.
MAINTENANCE Rattan requires no maintenance but can be wiped with a lightly dampened cloth if needed.
